The game will be for around 40-50 players and take place on Friday September 23rd, 2022 to Sunday September 25th, 2022 at the Caswell House in Austin, Tx.
A detailed schedule will be released closer to the event, but check-in and workshops will start in the early afternoon on Friday. Dinner and the game will start early Friday evening with play the rest of the day.
Saturday morning game will start around 10-11 am, and we will likely play until 11 pm Saturday night. Once the game is complete Saturday evening, we will gather for an official story debrief to share all the secrets and events with each other and enjoy one another’s company.
So in short, Friday afternoon will be workshop, and game will take place Friday evening 5-11 pm, all day Saturday (approximately 11 am-11 pm), followed by an afterparty.
The cost for the whole event will be 510 USD plus taxes (about 42 USD), and will cover the full participation, food, characters, and everything else mentioned below and on the website.
In the price you get:
We will also offer sponsored tickets for 310 USD plus taxes (about 30 USD), and will fill these depending on how many patrons we get. Stage payments for all types of tickets will be available.
For this event we will only be selling one type of ticket. Journeys & Tales do not believe in letting our participants pay to get access to more content or more prestigious roles, and it is our policy that every single character and participant should have the same high level experience.
The minimum age to participate will be 21 years due to the nature of the game, and the access to alchohol on the premise.
Lodging is not included in the base ticket price. With the site being close to downtown Austin, we have chosen to let our participants make their own choices of lodging to make the game more accessible for all.
There are several hotels within a few blocks walking distance from the game site, and we will be making arrangements with one of them for a group rate on rooms, as we get closer. We expect these to be around 160-175 USD per room, per night excluding taxes etc. More information will follow on this to our players.
With the outbreak of Covid-19 several larp production companies came together to establish a risk evaluation procedure and Covid policy, and this is what will also be useing for this game.
However, since this game is announced about a year before it will be run, it is impossible for anyone to know what the situation with Covid-19 will be at that point in time.
Never the less it is our intention to try and put clarity out to our players before sign-up about the approach we will take.
And, as things progress we reserve the right to update, amend, and change this policy to the needs at the time, as we get closer to the game.
For this game we will have several controls, mitigations, and contraints in place, and we encourage you to read more about them in our Covid-19 policy for Hartwood.
As a pre-requisite for attending, we will require all participants to be fully Covid-19 vaccinated, and we will be asking them to acknowledge this at the signup.
Hartwood is created by the Journeys & Tales design of Meredith and Christian M. Christensen. With her strong background in romance and regency litterature, and a Master's Degree in History, Meredith is the Design Lead on this project, with Christian handling logistics and practicalities.

For this project we have also brought on two additional Co-Writers, Luella Rose and Amanda Lindell.
Luella has been enamored with the romance genre since childhood, and bring a solid understanding and perspective to the game design. With a long background in costume design and makeup, Luella is heavily involved with the costuming approach as well.
Amanda’s first and truest love has always been words and stories. From childhood stories and poems about mystical animals and the unpleasantness of kumquats to more recent forays into romance, fantasy, and science fiction short stories, she’s always looking for ways to explore her creativity through writing. If she’s not writing, she’s likely reading, planning her next trip, or snuggling with her beloved ginger tabby cat.
In this project Amanda is involved on the design team with character and plot design, and is one also of the writers of the game.
To act as the manor of the Duke and Duchess of Fortingall, the game will take place at the Daniel H. Caswell House in Austin. This housee is a beautiful, turn-of-the century home conveniently located near the Texas State Capitol and The University of Texas. The house exhibits influences of late Victorian, Colonial Revival, and Chateauesque style, and features a corner turret and porches supported on rusticated piers. It was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1984
For our participants with disabilities it is our intention to be able to accomodate all, if at all possible. The site is in 2 floors, but has an elevator, and is ADA compliant. We do not believe the setting would create any issues that we cannot work around. If you are interested in attending and have a concern, please get in touch with us about your specific needs, and we will see what can be done.
